This simple one-pan chicken breast recipe is perfect for beginners and takes just 25 minutes from start to finish. The sweet and savory honey garlic sauce creates a delicious glaze that pairs perfectly with rice or vegetables.

Ingredients

For the chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the honey garlic sauce:

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Prep the chicken: Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels. If they’re thick, pound them to even thickness (about ¾ inch). Season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Sear the chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken breasts and cook for 5-6 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F). Remove chicken to a plate.
  3. Make the sauce: In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Stir and let simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Combine: Add butter to the sauce and stir until melted. Return chicken to the skillet and spoon sauce over the top. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, coating the chicken well.
  5. Serve: Plate the chicken and drizzle with extra sauce from the pan. Serve immediately with steamed rice and broccoli.

Beginner Tips

  • Don’t skip patting the chicken dry—this helps achieve a better sear
  • Use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking
  • Let chicken rest for 3 minutes after cooking for juicier results
  • The sauce will thicken as it cools, so serve immediately
