Introduction

Arbroath Smokies are a Scottish delicacy originating from the small fishing town of Arbroath. These are whole haddocks that have been hot-smoked over a traditional hardwood fire, giving them a distinctive flavor and a golden-brown color. Arbroath Smokies are often enjoyed simply with a squeeze of lemon, a pat of butter, and some fresh bread.

Ingredients

  • 2 whole Arbroath Smokies (smoked haddocks)
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Crusty bread, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preparation:
    • If the Arbroath Smokies are not pre-cooked, you can reheat them gently. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Wrap the Smokies in foil and place them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes until heated through.
  2. Serving:
    • Remove the Smokies from the oven and unwrap them. Place each Smokie on a plate.
    • Serve the fish with a wedge of lemon on the side, a small serving of butter, and a sprinkle of fresh parsley.
  3. Enjoy:
    • Arbroath Smokies are best enjoyed with a simple accompaniment like crusty bread, allowing the rich, smoky flavor of the fish to shine.
